Eleanor A. M. Culver – Personal Biography

In May 2009, Eleanor founded REAL HR, a company responsible for assisting small to mid-sized businesses with realizing their business goals through the development of sound human resources processes, procedures and policies

REAL HR provides specific project-based work, facilitation, and on-going advisory support relating to all aspects of human resources management including: staffing, employee relations, benefits, compensation, employee development, organizational development, government compliance, internal and external communication, performance management, human resources strategy, leadership development and board governance. REAL HR’s clients include companies in oil and gas, retail, health and the not-for-profit sector. Combining over 25 years’ Human Resources experience with her sense of humour and pragmatic approach, Eleanor provides clients with practical HR solutions to their business challenges.

A life-long career HR Professional, Eleanor has a reputation for her pragmatic HR approach; one in which the HR Practitioner is a partner in the business and a provider of real solutions to operational issues. Prior to the founding of REAL HR, Ms. Culver was:

  • Vice-President, Human Resources & Administration, Century Oilfield Services: 2006-2009
  • HR Manager Canada Region, Halliburton Energy Services: 2004-2006
  • Director, HR, Calgary Flames Ltd.: 1997-2004
  • HR Advisor, Alberta Energy Company (now EnCana and Cenovus): 1990-1997

In addition to her undergraduate degree in Psychology (1989), Ms. Culver holds a Master of Arts degree in leadership (2014).  If you are interested in the ways in which leaders can enhance organizational adaptability in a volunteer organization, her thesis can be found in the national archives here.

On weekends, you can usually find Eleanor sweating it out in a boxing ring or yoga class, spending quality time with family and friends, or chasing after the next adventure through downhill skiing and mountain biking.

Amanda Paterson – Personal Biography

Amanda and Eleanor met in Lake Louise and shared a passion for pragmatic HR solutions to improve operational efficiencies.  Amanda widens the scope of REAL HR’s offering to clients as she brings a creative and energetic approach to all aspects of the human resources functions we provide to our clients.

Over the course of her career thus far, Amanda has accumulated an abundance of experience and knowledge in high volume recruitment, training and development, employee relations and policy development.  In addition, she has worked on significant projects involving customised HRIS implementation and policy review.

Amanda is focused on developing her career.  She has an avid interest around why people choose to do the work they do, how she can support businesses to achieve their strategic goals by bringing out the best in their people, and partnering with leaders to create work environments where people are recognised and valued.

Amanda holds a Bachelor of Communications in Public Relations and Organisational Communications from the University of Queensland, is currently undertaking Human Resources Management certificate through the University of Calgary, and attained her Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation in 2020.

On weekends, you can usually find Amanda enjoying outdoor adventures such as hiking and camping, socializing with friends at one of the many local breweries, or trying to find the best brunch and coffee spots in Calgary.

Joshua Dahm – Personal Biography

One of our newest members, Joshua fits into the team well with a shared passion for delivering fulsome HR solutions to improve operational efficiencies. Joshua helps to improve REAL HR’s scope by bringing data analytics and HR Information System proficiencies. Before Joshua’s arrival on the REAL HR team in September 2020, he was:

  • Staffing & Recruitment Assistant, Calgary Board of Education May 2018 – Aug 2018
  • Chief Administrator, Alberta’s Large Health Foundations & Trusts Feb 2018 – Apr 2018
  • HR Administrator, Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation May 2017 – December 2017

Throughout his career, Joshua has developed knowledge in L&D and on-boarding program development, compensation and total rewards, A&D management, policy development and HR data analysis. Joshua also has experience taking on significant projects, including designing compensation surveys, redesigning on-boarding programs, and creating in-house HRIS systems.

Joshua loves HR because of his passion for enabling employees to perform in their jobs and rely on the company to support and value them. Joshua is passionate about helping companies station their people to be in the right position, with the right systems and the right structure to maximize efficiencies. He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Human Resources Management and General Management with a concentration in International Business from Mount Royal University. He is currently working towards attaining his Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CHPR) designation.

Malvika Garg – Personal Biography

One of our newest members, Malvika is excited about all things HR. She enjoys working with different individuals to find business solutions, exploring professional development opportunities to broaden her knowledge, and has a huge passion for developing relationships. Malvika has diverse experience in employee relations, talent management & acquisition, and learning & development with a keen interest in HR systems and the value they can bring to small businesses. Before Malvika joined the REAL HR team in September 2020, she was:

  • HR Assistant, MNP LLP, from June 2019 to November 2019
  • HR Assistant, The Calgary Airport Authority, from April 2017 to December 2017
  • HR Assistant, Strategic Group, from May 2016 to December 2016

Throughout her time at university, Malvika worked in the Aviation, Real-Estate, and Education industry, which exposed her to various functions within the Human Resources World.  She graduated with her Bachelor of Business Administration in Human Resources Management from Mount Royal University. She is currently working towards attaining her Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation.
